Commuter Survey in the press - CityAM
Some of the findings of Office Space in Town's recent 'Commuter Survey' were recently revealed in this exclusive article with City AM, published today. The results of the survey of over 1,500 UK workers, suggested that the daily commute is having a detrimental impact on people's lifestyle and wellbeing.
It is estimated that British workers spend more than 360 hours a year commuting to work. To put this into context that is more than two weeks of annual leave.
The survey found that over a third of respondents commutes were longer than 90 minutes a day. We also discovered that the most common complaints about commuting related to lengthy journeys (32%), overcrowding on public transport (27%) and delays (26%).
Chief Executive of OSiT, Giles Fuchs commented "Journeys to work are having a much bigger strain on their lifestyle, family life, wellbeing and productivity than perhaps initially imagined. It is increasingly important therefore, that employers and businesses consider what they can be doing and offering to current and potential employees to help alleviate some of the pains of commuting."
The article highlights how giving employees some flexibility, in order to avoid rush-hour or to fit their routine around other commitments can significantly reduce stress and promote better, healthier life-style choices, which in turn impacts their overall positivity and productivity. It is believed that working flexibly equates to an annual saving of up to eight days of productive time.
